After a pair of tight losses to excellent teams to open the season, the Lone Star football team busted into the win column in a big way.

The Rangers piled up 535 yards of offense as they opened the District 5-5A Division I schedule with a 73-21 victory over Heritage.

Quarterback Garret Rangel needed only 15 pass attempts to throw for five touchdowns -- to four different receivers. Rangel completed 14 of 15 passes for 273 yards.

Jaden Nixon rushed 14 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns and also caught one of Rangel's TD passes. The other touchdown receptions were by Trace Bruckler, Ashton Jeanty and Evan Stein (who caught two).

Lone Star (1-2, 0-1 in 5-5A) has the next two weeks off because this week's game against Independence was cancelled and LSHS has its scheduled bye week after that. The Rangers are scheduled to play Reedy on Oct. 29 at the Ford Center.
