The Lone Star football team just keeps on rolling.

The Rangers beat Wakeland 55-14 on Thursday night after jumping out to a 45-0 lead at the Ford Center. The win moved Lone Star to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in District 5-5A Division I.

Lone Star, which is ranked No. 1 in the state in 5A Division I, scored a touchdown on its first play from scrimmage -- a 60-yard touchdown pass from Garret Rangel to Marvin Mims. The pair connected for three touchdowns in the first quarter as the Rangers jumped out to a 28-0 lead.

Lone Star scored touchdowns on its first six drives Thursday. The defense also was sharp, forcing Wakeland (3-2) to punt on its first four possessions. On Wakeland's fifth and sixth possessions, the Lone Star defense intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

Lone Star has not allowed a touchdown in the first half this season, and the average halftime score of its games is 42-2. The defense has also forced 17 turnovers in only 5 games, while the offense has turned the ball over only once.

Lone Star has outscored its opponents 271-49 this season. That includes a 30-19 win over three-time defending state champion Highland Park in the third week of the season.

Lone Star next plays on Thursday (Oct. 10) against Independence at Ford Center.
